What does it mean when knitting slippers to use 2 strands of 4-ply worsted weight yarn?

Yes, you use two strands held together like one strand through the whole project. When you cast on you cast on with both strands held together. When you insert the needle into the stitch you insert it under both strands, wrap both strands and so forth and so on. It does make the fabric thicker, warmer and it wears longer. 4 ply worsted weight is like plain jane yarn like red heart super saver.
